Jenkins, KY man drowns at Holden Beach, NC


A preliminary investigation points to rip currents causing the death of an Eastern Kentucky man at a North Carolina beach on Sunday.

The body of Richard Mullins, 24, of Jenkins, was found just after 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the surf on the east end of Holden Beach near the Lockwood Folly Inlet, according to a report from the beach's police department.

Mullins was swimming with three other individuals at around 3:30 p.m. that afternoon when all four were seen in distress. The three others were safely removed from the water while Mullins could not be located.
