Politicians are working on repealing the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.

News 5's Jessica Griffith talked to a local congressmen on what changes he hopes to see.

Congressman Roe says the goal is to make health care more accessible and affordable.

We also talked to people who are struggling with getting coverage, because they say Obamacare is too expensive.

"I never found anything that i could actually afford," Daphne Dyal said. She said she doesn't have health insurance. "I can't afford the insurance, including the Obamacare," she said. So, she hopes some changes will be made.

"If they actually made health care that's cheaper to where I can afford it and it'll do good for when I'm sick and not just when I'm healthy. I think that would be a lot better for us," she said. And congressman Phil Roe agrees. He's working on reforming the Affordable Care Act, so more people can be covered. He tells me many of the aspects of Obamacare will remain intact, like kids being able to stay on their parents insurance until they're 26. And most people we talked to agreed with keeping pieces of the act.

"I don't think it was all bad. I think it did have some good things because millions of people did get insurance that did not have insurance. I think it needs to be tweaked, no necessarily thrown out and start again," Susan Reqaves said. But,. a major part congressman Roe wants to get rid of, is the penalty for not having insurance. Roe says about 160,000 Tennesseeans paid a fee because they couldn't afford insurance under Obamacare.

"That's wrong," Roe said. And Daphne agrees. "They need to do any with the fine. The fine is very unfair. It's like oh okay because I can't afford insurance I'm going to get penazlied," she said. Another change Roe wants to see happen is something called an advanceable, refundable tax credit. People would be able to get tax credits back in advance for buying a plan that's good for them and their family.

"So hopefully what we'll be able to do is recreate a competitive market. And we know the more plans you have to choose from, the lower the cost will be," Roe said. In the end, the goal is to have more people covered. "The single most important thing we can do for health care is make it affordable for people," he said. Congressman Roe tells us it's going to take some time to make these changes.

Since companies are already starting to get their plans approved for 2019, it may take a few years until we see a change.
