Dozens run to remember avid runner in Tri-Cities community
Some local runners honored one of their own during a 5K in Bristol, Monday night.
About a hundred people came out to remember Jimmy Moates. Many in the running community know him as an avid runner and a staple at races in the Tri-Cities.
Moates died last week due to complications related to heart disease. So on Monday night, his close friend ran wearing his number, 1000. And each wore a red bracelet to raise awareness about heart health .
"A lot of folks that are running tonight know jimmy, ran with jimmy a couple times a week, were dear friends, raced against him," organizer Natalie Whitlock said. "Then his family is here. We also have a lot of people that just care about running and just know what an important person he was in the running community."
All of the money raised will go to Moates's family. They also have a page to donate: https://www.youcaring.com/jimmymoates-758208
