Jonesborough to remove fluoride from water supply
Jonesborough will no longer add fluoride to the town's water supply.
Mayor Kelly Wolfe said a survey sent to water customers shows a majority want fluoride removed. At a meeting on Monday, the BMA voted to eliminate it.
The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation isn't 'for' or 'against' fluoride in water. According to the state, several cities across Tennessee have already removed the chemical from its water supply.
Mayor Wolfe said it will be out of Jonesborough's water supply within the next 120 days.
The mayor said all of the money saved, by eliminating fluoride, will go toward buying toothbrushes, toothpaste and fluoride rinse for Washington County students in need.
