Travel up this year for Independence Day weekend

BRISTOL, Tenn. - This Independence Day weekend will see the most travelers ever, according to AAA. Virginia will see its lowest gas prices since 2004.

"Upper part of New York, gas prices were $2.50 to $2.60," Eddie Graham of Rome, Georgia said. "Maybe even a little higher than that, but as we've come south in Virginia it's the cheapest prices. We saw some last night for like $1.87."

More than 44 million people are expected to travel at least 50 miles away from home this weekend. The national average for a gallon of gas is $2.35, but it's much lower in our area.

About 1.25 million more people will be traveling this year than last year. The top destination is Orlando.
