Understanding the hijab at ETSU
A workshop was held Wednesday at East Tennessee State University to help spread awareness and foster diversity.
The hijab workshop took place at the University's Multi-Cultural Center and it was held to teach anyone interested about the head-wear and why some Muslim women wear it. We talked to one student who said she hopes people will come away with a better understanding of the practice.
"No one forced me to wear it. I chose to wear it myself. People just need to kind of understand that it doesn't make me any less American. I still love to go play tennis. I work out. I, you know, I go to school and all that. It's an extra piece of clothing that I wear to symbolize my modesty and my identity," ETSU sophomore Isra El-khateeb said.
