UVa-Wise to host final Virginia gubernatorial debate in October

The final debate between Virginia's two gubernatorial candidates will take place in Southwest Virginia.

The University of Virginia's College at Wise will host the session between Republican Ed Gillespie and Democratic candidate Ralph Northam on October 9 inside the school's Prior Convocation Center, school officials confirmed Thursday.

The debate is also being presented by The Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy and the Southwest Virginia Technology Council. Tickets will be required for the event.

A Monmouth University poll released earlier this week showed the race for Richmond is neck-and-neck amongst likely voters with each candidate earning 44 percent.

The candidates' second debate will take place Sept. 19 at Capital One headquarters in Tysons with Chuck Todd of NBC's "Meet The Press" serving as moderator.
