Oklahoma child sex crime suspect captured in Southwest Virginia
An Oklahoma man charged with child sex crimes was captured in Tazewell County Wednesday.
Members of the U.S. Marshall Service and the Tazewell County Sheriff's Office conducted a raid and arrested Michael Newell of Durant, Oklahoma.
Newell was charged with first-degree sexual abuse of a victim under 12 years of age and sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian to a child. Authorities believe the crimes occurred between December 2015 and December 2017 in Ohio County, West Virginia.
Newell is currently being held at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Tazewell without bond and is awaiting extradition.
