South Carolina 6-year-old brings loaded gun to school
A six-year-old student took a loaded gun Monday to Brockington Elementary School in Timmonsville, according to Florence School District Four Advisor Dr. Zona Jefferson.
An email sent to faculty says another student told a teacher about the gun, according to a report from our sister station WPDE.
The email says the teacher immediately took the small, caliber revolver from the student, secured it and notified administrators.
The student who took the gun said his only intent was to "show it off", according to the district email.
It says the district is working with law enforcement and the S.C. Department of Social Services to ensure the well being of all students.
The email goes on to say, "We are pleased that our students are comfortable enough with our faculty to report situations as such. The incident is being handled appropriately according to the district policy."
Jefferson confirms the student was suspended.
