His passion of chasing storms as a young boy in Iowa brought Dave Dierks to Bristol in 1987 as a full-time meteorologist for News 5 WCYB in 1987.

Monday marked Dave's 30th year of broadcasting and telling you how the weather will be the next day, with a few fun times and a growing family mixed in along the way.

The milestone was commemorated in a special on-air salute at the close of the News 5 at 6 p.m. newscast where Dave was joined by colleagues and his family.

Dave met his wife Natalie at WCYB and the two decided that the Tri Cities was the best place to raise their family.

"I love the region and I love the people of southwest Virginia and northeast Tennessee. They're a part of the reason we decided to stay here," Dierks said.

Bonus footage of the special event was featured on Facebook Live and can be seen by clicking here.
