American Red Cross of NE TN volunteers headed to Louisiana ahead of Nate
Local members of the American Red Cross of Northeast Tennessee are on their way to provide assistance as Tropical Storm Nate prepares to make landfall.
A report issued Friday by ARCNT executive director Glenda Bobalik said 14 volunteers have been activated for work in shelters based in Louisiana. The workers left the Tri Cities on Friday and are expected to stay in the Gulf region through the weekend.
Those volunteers will be assisting in setting up shelters, providing meals and propositioning supplies that will be in place once the storm comes ashore, the report said.
In the last five weeks, the Red Cross has served more than 5.6 million meals and has helped to establish shelters in eight states following Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria.
