Police: Man to be charged after being shot at, pursued, and jumping into lake
UPDATE 1:35 p.m.
The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office has released additional information in connection with a shooting that happened Wednesday in Piney Flats.
According to police, officers responded to Allison Road at 9:40 a.m. in reference to shots being fired. Officers spoke to a woman who said she was cleaning her house when Daniel Self arrived on a motorcycle and began to rev his engine in her driveway.
The woman said her ex-husband Rex Lewis grabbed a handgun and fired three shots at Self, who fled on a motorcycle.
Self had warrants out of Sullivan County for violation of probation, domestic assault, and criminal trespassing.
After a pursuit, officers found Self and tried to pull him over. He then ditched his bike on Austin Springs Road and jumped over a steep embankment into Boone Lake.
Self was retrieved from the water and taken to Bristol Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. He will then be taken to the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office correctional facility and charged.
Lewis was taken to the sheriff's office for questioning. Charges are pending.
Officers in Sullivan and Washington Counties in Tennessee are investigating a shooting.
A report of a shooting on Allison Road came in around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. News 5 was told that when Sullivan County deputies arrived, the person being shot at sped away on a motorcycle.
Deputies followed him until he crashed on Austin Springs Road. He then took off on foot and jumped over a cliff into a lake Washington County. Deputies then caught him. He was hurt and taken to the hospital.
According to the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department, he had outstanding warrants for his arrest unrelated to the shooting. Meanwhile, deputies arrested the shooter, but we don't know the motive for why shots were fired.
