Bigfoot celebration at Bays Mountain
KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Bays Mountain in Kingsport is hosting a Bigfoot celebration this weekend. Friday marked the 50th anniversary of the famous Patterson-Gimlin Bigfoot footage, which was shot on October 20, 1967. Organizers created a comic-con style event. Guests got to participate in several activities including games, live music and a cosplay contest. They also heard talks from researchers who are trying to prove the existence of sasquatches. Bill Lancaster, who is making a documentary on people who search for Bigfoot, helped start the event. "As far as believing in Bigfoot, I believe it is just as hard to prove it doesn't exist as it does," Lancaster said. "There are way too many credible folks, like Dr. Melder, that is putting his academic career on the line to prove it ." The documentary, which is called "Cultured Bigfoot," is currently in post-production. The celebration will continue through Sunday until 6 p.m. One organizer said he hopes to make it a twice-yearly event.
