Body found in South Holston Lake

UPDATE, 4;15 p.m.

A report from the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office says the man found in South Holston Lake earlier today has been identified as Donald Wayne Russell, 56, of Bristol, Tennessee.

The body has been taken to the East Tennessee State University Quillen College of Medicine for an autopsy. A cause of death has not been determined at this time.


UPDATE, 3:50 p.m.

New details have been released from the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office regarding a body found earlier this afternoon at South Holston Lake.

SCSO spokesperson Kristen Quon said the body is that of a 56-year-old male who reportedly fell off the side of a cliff into the water.

A motorcycle rider spotted the body from the roadway and notified authorities. The body was recovered near the Hwy. 421 boat ramp.


News 5 has learned from the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency that a male body has been found in South Holston Lake.

Officials told us that this was not the man who has been searched for recently, Matt Ragan.

Authorities do not know if the two incidents are related.
