Bristol, Tennessee fire chief announces retirement
Bristol, Tennessee Fire Chief Bob Barnes has announced his retirement effective Dec. 18, the city said in a statement Thursday.
Barnes is a Tennessee High graduate and began his career with the department in November 1974. He also owned a tax preparation service from 1981 until 2007 when he was promoted to chief by the city.
"Chief Barnes will retire with the knowledge that the fire department, under his leadership, is operating at the highest level of professionalism, and perhaps as importantly, the moral of the department staff is at the highest level in my memory. His leadership will be missed by all," City Manager Bill Sorah said in a statement.
The department received an internationally accredited agency by the Commission of Fire Accreditation International under Barnes' watch- one of only five departments in Tennessee to achieve that goal, the city reported.
