Burglars pull out with $80K dragster, equipment in Elizabethton

Elizabethon police are saying thieves got away with more than $80,000 in items when they hauled-off a dragster, tools and other equipment from a body shop located off of Highway 19E.

The drag car co-owner Linda Markland told News 5 that their specialized Ford Mustang stored inside an enclosed hauler was taken from Fatboy Fabrication just after 3 a.m. Sunday morning. She says they are trying to get word out as quickly as possible because they fear it is headed off for the chop shop.

"This was planned. They put other vehicle up on blocks. They came in and hauled it away," Markland said. "Time is of the essence because when you get a car like that with markings all over it, they can sell it cheaper by breaking it down part by part."

A $6,000 reward is currently being offered for information leading to the suspects and the stolen property. Anyone with information on the case can contact Elizabethton police at (423) 542-4141 or (423) 707-5517.
