Cardiovascular summit updating area doctors on heart medicine
KINGSPORT, TN - Area cardiovascular doctors are staying up-to-date with the latest advances in heart medicine. The Wellmont CVA Heart Institute hosted more than 250 health professionals for their annual cardiovasuclar summit.
Speakers presented new aspects on care, some that were experimental just a few years ago. Discussions included new types of care that don't require open-heart surgery. They also focus on how best to treat patients living in rural areas.
"How they can most effectively decide who needs to be referred to a tertiary type care center," said Dr. Herb Ladley, M.D., an interventional cardiologist with the heart institute and Holston Valley Medical Center's chief medical officer. "Nobody likes to travel for much of anything other than maybe shopping." He said continuing education is a requirement for all health professionals.
