Ceremony held to welcome new Johnson City fire chief

Ceremonies were held Tuesday at City Hall to swear in James Stables as Johnson City's newest fire chief.

A symbolic honor guard was used to welcome Stables to the unit. He was a finalist for the job in 2010 and was most recently the chief for the fire department in Palm Bay, Florida.

He replaces Mark Scott who retired on June 2 following a 30-year career. He announced his intentions to leave the post in March following the results of a Municipal Technical Advisory Service study that recommended the city replace him.
