Crews in Kingsport battle blaze at former IGA supermarket

UPDATE, 5:05 p.m.

News 5's Tiana Bohner is on the scene of the extensive structure fire at the former IGA market location on Sullivan Street.

Parts of the building can be heard collapsing as Kingsport Fire Department personnel on the ground have been pulled back from the dwelling.

An aerial pumper ladder attack has been started to fight the blaze from above.

Kingsport Fire Department spokesperson Barry Brickey said the fire call came in just after 3:15 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

Police officials are asking motorists to avoid West Sullivan, Clinchfield and Press streets as fire crews maintain a perimeter around the scene. East/West traffic should utilize Stone Drive or Center Street for their afternoon routes.


Several fire crews are battling a blaze that broke out Thursday afternoon at the former IGA supermarket located on Sullivan Street in Kingsport.

Kingsport Fire Department spokesperson Barry Brickey said no injuries are reported at this time.
