Domestic dispute leads to police chase

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn - Gun shots were fired during an apparent dispute between two men outside a home in Piney Flats, Tenn.

Sullivan County police said they arrived at the home on Allison Road with reports that Rex Lewis had fired three shots at Daniel Self.

According to reports, Self was revving his motorcycle, disrupting Lewis.

When police arrived on scene, they said they took Lewis into custody, but Self drove off on his bike, leading to a police chase.

"All I know is that Self had outstanding warrants in Sullivan County and that's why he ran," explained Public Information Officer, Kristen Quon.

Self was wanted for violation of probation, domestic assault, and criminal trespassing.

He led police to Austin Springs Road, where they say he crashed and then took off on foot.

Carolyn Curtis lives next to where Self crashed. She saw the foot chase from her bedroom window.

"He was running, I mean he was running. And the cops were 10 feet behind him, and the police car was right behind that," recalled Curtis.

She knew where Self was headed.

"The next thing that hit my mind was he will probably run off the cliff behind my house into the lake," she said. "And that unnerved me because I thought if he did, he's probably dead... I'm surprised he's alive."

He was taken to Bristol's hospital and is charged in the outstanding warrants.

Lewis is charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm during a felony.

Police are still investigating the motive of the dispute between the two men.

Lewis will be arraigned tomorrow morning.
