Escaped inmate wanted in Greene County captured in Florida
According to Greene County Sheriff Pat Hankins, the hunt is over for a man accused of walking off from a work detail on July 2.
Sheriff Hankins said that 24-year-old Charles Lawson was captured in Plant City, Florida, which is near Tampa. Sheriff Hankins told News 5 that Lawson had reportedly sold a stolen vehicle out of Greene County to someone in Hillsborough County, Florida. State officials got an alert that the vehicle was stolen out of Tennessee when the person tried to register the vehicle.
Lawson was captured Thursday at about 11:30 a.m. Sheriff Hankins estimates that it will be next week before Lawson is extradited back to Greene County.
Rex Allen Gray, walked away from the county jail workhouse last month. He has yet to be captured.
