ETSU students 'stack and pack' in homecoming game for a good cause
It is homecoming week on the campus of East Tennessee State University and for the last couple of years one competition features student groups using canned food to create sculptures relating to the homecoming theme.
This year's theme? "Let the Games Begin."
Three teams were busy on the steps of the library today working on these creations. They are judged on creativity, originality and how it relates to the theme.
Students used some of the cans donated and some purchased on their own. Cans will be sent to Second Harvest Food Bank and Bucky's Food Pantry on campus.
"The students get out of this a sense of community so they are all out here working together to better serve our campus and better serve the organization. They get service hours credited toward the organization. They also get to help to give back to families in need," said ETSU homecoming chair Blaine Smith.
Last year, more than 30,000 pounds of food was collected during this competition.
