Fisherman finds body in Cherokee Lake, TWRA says

According to our sister station in Knoxville, WBIR, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency reported a fisherman found a body in Cherokee Lake Friday afternoon.

Dispatch said the call came in around 1:45 p.m.

Jefferson County Sheriff Bud McCoig said the body of a 42-year-old man from Grainger County was recovered from the water near Cherokee Dam Friday afternoon.

The Jefferson County Rescue Squad and New Market Fire and Rescue assisted in the recovery.

Matt Cameron with TWRA said the incident does not appear to be boating-related at this time. TWRA said the rescue squad called them out to assist.

The Jefferson County and Grainger County Sheriff's Offices are investigating, McCoig said.
