Foreign suspect sends bomb threat by fax to Meadowview Center in Kingsport
KINGSPORT, Tenn. - The Meadowview Mariott Conference Resort and Convention Center was on high alert Saturday morning, after a bomb threat coming from outside of the country was faxed to the conference center.
Kingsport Police say at 6 a.m. Saturday, a fax was sent to the hotel saying explosives had been placed inside the building.
The narrative demanded several thousands of dollars and threatened to set off the explosives if hotel staff did not send the money electronically. Several law enforcement K-9 and explosive detection teams checked the Meadowview property, but no explosives were found.
The investigation is ongoing. Marriott released the following statement:
"Earlier today we received a bomb threat via fax. We immediately contacted the authorities. The police are managing the situation, and we are following their guidance. The safety and security of our guests and associates remains one of our highest priorities."
