Greene County EMS honored for ferris wheel rescue
GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. - A Greene County EMS team was honored in Nashville for quick action taken to treat three children who fell from a ferris wheel last summer. The Tennessee Emergency Medical Services for Children awarded the crew the Star of Life. They were some of the first responders to help when the three children fell out of the ride at the Greene County Fair.
The award requires all victims survived. Operations director T.J. Manis said the situation took a miracle and dedication from the rescuers.
"To this day they're humble, they appreciated the award, but at the end of the day they were doing the job they were trained and paid to do," Manis said. "You do it for the patients, you want to help people. If you didn't have the heart to help people you would not be in the EMS field."
One crew from each of seven regions in Tennessee took home the honor.
