Greene County inmate dies after being found unresponsive in cell

Investigators are saying no foul play is expected after officers in the Greene County, Tennessee Detention Center discovered an unresponsive inmate in his cell.

A sheriff's department spokesperson told News 5 that Robert Allen Belt, 39, was found just after 4:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

A correction's officer performed CPR on the inmate who was then transported to a hospital in Greeneville where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy has been ordered.

Belt was in jail after being charged with failure to appear on a theft between $1,000 and $10,000.
