Rockslide shuts down Highway 70 N near Cave Springs, may be closed for weeks

Hawkins County EMA director Gary Murrell says a rockslide on Highway 70 North is causing closures between Highway 94 and Clinch Valley Road. He says the road may be closed for weeks.

Murrell says they received a call around 11 a.m. on Saturday.

He told News 5 they aren't sure how it started, but thinks the amount of rain we've received caused the rocks to slide.

Officials say there aren't any injures that they're aware of.

Murrell says this is a major road between Hawkins and Hancock County, and several people use it to get to work.

He told us it's expected to be closed for weeks because officials can't begin removing the rocks until engineers come in and determine if anything else may fall, as there are still some loose rocks.
