Holston Valley Medical Center partners with Mountain Empire nursing program
KINGSPORT, Tenn. - A partnership between Wellmont Health System and Mountain Empire Community College will help with a growing need for nurses. Mountain Empire will now be able to accept 20 more nursing students each year.
"It's so exciting to have this," Nursing Program Dean Kathy Mitchell said. "Because we simply do not have enough clinical instructors to admit students. We don't have the clinical space to admit more students."
The announcement was made Wednesday at the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport.
The need for more nurses is expected to continue growing through 2022. Wellmont is providing $10,000 each year to help pay for an extra part-time instructor for the program.
Wellmont chose Mountain Empire for this partnership due to its unique nights and weekends program, allowing Holston Valley to provide more clinical rotations.
