Johnson City man receives year in prison for steroid ring that made $1M
A man who operated an anabolic steroids ring out of Johnson City has been sentenced to prison following a hearing in federal court in Greeneville on Wednesday.
Matfey Lisovoy received 1 year and three months in jail time and was ordered to pay $40,000 in restitution by Judge Ronnie Greer. Lisovoy took a plea deal with prosecutors in July 2016 and also waived the reading of his two-count indictment, according to court records obtained by News 5.
Investigators said Lisovoy and a number of co-conspirators made wire transfers to China to obtain steroid materials and then processed them in Northeast Tennessee to distribute. The group collected more than $1.5 million in sales from 2012 to 2015, according to the court report.
