The Tennessee Highway Patrol has confirmed one person is dead and another critically injured after a FedEx tractor trailer plummeted down between two bridges on Interstate 81's Exit 69 in Blountville Wednesday morning.
Preliminary information from the THP says the rig was traveling northbound when the driver lost control, entered and exited the median and the 18-wheeler was deposited onto Highway 394. The officer told News 5 that the cab of the rig was completely destroyed in the crash.
The patrolman also said that the FedEx truck had two personnel on board and was returning to Pennsylvania after making a stop in Nashville. The other passenger is listed in critical condition, the officer said.
Highway 394 remains closed as critical response investigation teams examine the crash site.
