The Niswonger Children's Hospital 5th Annual Radiothon started Monday morning with the help of the Holston Valley Radio Corporation.

Different groups from the community will be manning the phones throughout the day Tuesday.

Although this isn't the hospital's biggest fundraiser, hospital officials say it has more value than the money alone.

"This one is just a lot of fun. It brings in a lot of community support. It rallies kids and families to come in and help. This one is very, very exciting for us," Niswonger Children's Hospital CEO Lisa Carter said.

Carter says some of the money will be saved for major projects like a new operating room and even adding floors to the hospital in the future.

So far, more than $60,000 has been raised toward the $270,000 goal.
