Officials: 18-month-boy dies in Knoxville house fire
An 18-month-old boy has died in a house fire in east Knoxville despite efforts by his family and firefighters to save him. Local news outlets report that arriving fire officials say they found the child's parents and his two siblings outside the burning home Thursday. Knoxville Fire Department spokesman DJ Corcoran says the family had been burned while trying to get the toddler but the flames inside the house were too intense. Firefighters also attempted to get into the home to get to the child, but were thwarted by debris in front of a door, including a refrigerator. The parents and siblings were taken to hospitals for treatment of injuries and smoke inhalation. The cause remains under investigation, though investigators think the fire may have started in the kitchen.
