An Elizabethton man pursued by Johnson City police during a high speed chase with small children in the backseat of his car has been arrested.

Bradley G. Murphy, 36, was arrested Thursday when he showed up for a court date on an unrelated case in Carter County, according to a report from the Johnson City Police Department.

He is charged with three counts of reckless endangerment, felony eluding, driving on a revoked license and improper display of registration.

The pursuit happened on Wednesday when patrol officers were alerted to Murphy driving in the city without a valid license. Murphy briefly stopped his car for officers and took off at a high rate of speed, the report said.

Murphy nearly caused several crashes as he weaved in and out of traffic while trying to get away from the policemen who spotted the two young children and an older woman in the backseat of Murphy's car, according to the report.

Officers ended the pursuit out of safety for the children.

Murphy is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Sessions Court and is being held on a $42,000 bond.
