Police: Man wanted in Texas and Virginia for multiple homicides arrested in Greene County
A man wanted for multiple homicides in Virginia and Texas has been arrested on Interstate 81 in Greene County, according to authorities.
Tennessee Highway Patrol said troopers received a call around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday from Virginia State Police to be on the lookout for a 19-year-old Hispanic man with Texas tags heading southbound on Interstate 81.
Police saw the vehicle and saw the license plate had been covered up by a temporary license plate and had been taped over. Police followed the vehicle until they had three units to make a felony traffic stop. The vehicle stayed in the left lane, going under the 70 mph speed limit. A lieutenant gave the order to make the stop after they passed exit 23 so the suspect couldn't get off the interstate.
THP said a traffic stop was then conducted and the suspect, Ismael Antonio Hernandez Navarro, pulled over to the right shoulder and was arrested without incident.
Police said the suspect was photographed and a positive identification was made. He was taken to the Greene County Detention Center. Police found five masks, a knife, drug paraphernalia and multiple communication devices in the vehicle.
A woman and a boy were also in the vehicle, but their identities were not released.
