Police: Rogersville man strikes, kills man with truck

Hawkins County police have arrested a Rogersville man after they said he hit and killed a Surgoinsville resident with his truck following an argument.

Edmond Earl Stanley, 22, is charged with second-degree murder and was arraigned Monday in Sessions Court, according to Sheriff Ronnie Lawson and court information.

A friend of the victim, Ricky Golden, 48, told officers that she and Golden had been harassed by Stanley previously and saw the suspect pull up to the barn they were staying in on Rocky Hollow Road in a primer gray flatbed truck on Saturday evening just before 10 p.m., the sheriff reported.

The friend said she heard Stanley rev the engine of the truck and said "you don't know who your messing with" before striking Golden with the truck and then leaving the scene, police reported.

Deputies then spotted Stanley's truck on Long Hollow Road in Surgoinsville where Stanley told the officers that he had been at the barn and an altercation took place buy he did not recall hitting anyone with his truck, the report said.

The friend took Golden to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries, Sheriff Lawson said.

Stanley is currently being held on a $150,000 bond.
