DUI checkpoints being readied for Super Bowl weekend
Johnson City police are stepping up DUI patrols this weekend.
With special statement grant funding, they are paying overtime and putting additional officers on the streets for the Super Bowl weekend.
"We don't discourage anyone from getting out and enjoying their time during the super bowl weekend. We just encourage them not to be drinking and driving. That's the purpose of the extra patrols, to just have extra officers on the roads that are looking for impaired drivers," Johnson City Police Officer Allen Rutledge said.
The program is in partnership with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office's "Fans Don't Let Fans Drive Drunk" campaign.
Virginia State Police is also stepping up patrols Sunday into Monday morning.
