NORTHEAST TENN - The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Wildlife Services will begin distributing oral rabies vaccines to areas in Northeast Tennessee.

Starting Sept. 25th until Oct. 25th, residents in Carter, Greene, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi, Hawkins, Marion, McMinn Cocke, Grundy and Washington county will see a low-flying helicopter that is dropping the vaccines.

The vaccines will be in small white plastic packets coated in fishmeal crumbles to attract raccoons.

If you see one of these vaccines, it should be left alone or moved with a gloved hand.

Be sure to wash hands thoroughly if the vaccine makes skin contact.

The vaccine packets are not harmful to pets.

If you have additional questions, call 866-487-3297.
