Red Cross opening shelter in Johnson City for Irma evacuees
The American Red Cross of Northeast Tennessee is opening a shelter in Johnson City for those out-of-town residents who are coming to the region to escape Hurricane Irma.
The shelter is being established at University Baptist Church at 219 University Parkway and is now open. A Red Cross spokesperson told News 5 that individuals wanting to use the facility must produce identification, utility bill or other form of ID that shows they reside in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and other states affected by the storm.
