TN Secretary of State delivers library grants
Tri-Cities libraries received funding for technology upgrades and other improvements on Friday.
Tennessee's Secretary of State Tre Hargett paid a visit to our area to distribute the state grants. The largest, worth $15,000, to buy new computers for Johnson City's library.
"We make this trip, frankly, to libraries around the state so we can shine a bright light on the wonderful work libraries are doing and so they can gain even more local support," Secretary Hargett said.
"With this computer we're able to work faster, be more productive. We are moving to RFID technology, radio frequency identification, and that computer will be more compatible to that technology" Interim Johnson City Public Library Director Cathy Griffith added.
Bristol's library also received more than $12,000 to buy computer software and make improvements to the children's area.
Sullivan County's library will benefit from a $3,000 technology grant, and the Johnson County Archives received a $7,000 development grant.
