Rotary club member celebrates 50 years of perfect attendance
KINGSPORT, Tenn. - The Rotary Club of Kingsport honored one of its members today for his perfect attendance.
George "Wirt" Taylor hasn't missed a single rotary club meeting since he joined in 1967. That's 50 years ago.
"There's very few places I can think of that you can come on a weekly basis in this town or other towns that you get to be with civic leaders, the shakers/movers of the community," Taylor said. "You get to pick their brains, and well, they get to pick yours. That's been a great privilege and an honor."
Taylor received a certificate to celebrate.
His fellow Rotarians said he walks to the club meetings every week. Taylor is legally blind and can't drive, but he still arrives an hour early to help set up.
Taylor says he doesn't think much of his accomplishment, but fellow Rotarians say they appreciate his sacrifice.
