South Holston Lake drowning victim identified
BRISTOL, Tenn. - UPDATE 1:40 p.m. Monday
Authorities have identified the man who drowned Sunday in South Holston Lake.
According to Captain Andy Seabolt with the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office, the body of 19-year-old Rick Lane of Bristol, Virginia was recovered.
The investigation is still ongoing.
A body has been recovered from the waters of South Holston Lake.
According to Captain Andy Seabolt with the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office says a group of people were swimming in the lake near the Highway 421 bridge. Captain Seabolt says a 19-year-old man swam out from the shore on the north side of the 421 bridge, between the bridge and the 421 boat ramp, went under the water and did not resurface.
The Sullivan County Dive Team responded and recovered the drowning victim just before 6:00 p.m.
Captain Seabolt says the family has not been notified, but the person will be identified once the family is contacted.
There is no foul play suspected
UPDATE: According to the Sullivan County EMA director a body has been recovered from the waters of South Holston Lake. News 5's Jessica Griffin is headed to the scene and we will continue to update this story as soon as new information becomes available.
Major Keith Elton with the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office confirmed to News 5 there is a possible drowning on South Holston Lake.
It happened near the 421 Bridge. The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office has responded as well as TWRA and EMS crews. We are told it is not a boating related incident.
The investigation is underway, we will bring you more information as it becomes available.
