Storytelling Center president to be honored by United Nations in November
The president of Jonesborough's International Storytelling Center will be honored by the United Nations in November for his efforts to bring about social change.
The center announced Tuesday that Kiran Singh Sirah will travel to the UN Office in Geneva, Switzerland to be recognized as one of six recipients of the 'Champion of Peace' designation as part of a collaborative effort with Rotary International in ceremonies scheduled for Nov. 11.
The report noted that Sirah has worked with the Pentagon, the U.S. State Department and the city of Charleston on storytelling-based strategies for resolving conflicts and coping with post-traumatic stress.
The news comes as the facility prepares for its annual International Storytelling Festival scheduled for next weekend, Oct. 6-8. More on the event is available by clicking here.
