School is out for the summer but breakfast and lunch meals will still be available for kids 18 and under. The summer meals for kids program is based out of Sevier Middle School in Kingsport. All summer long, kids can come by and receive their meals free of charge.

Tracy Begley is a key coordinator of the program, and she explains the demand for a program like this in the Tri-Cities.

"There was just such a need for it with all the summer programs and then summer school in our area to start this," she said.

If the kids can't make it to Sevier Middle, they can expect to see food vans from the program coming to them.

"We have some vans and a bus that drops off at some of the housing in the area. We are also feeding parks and REC and the Y," Begley explained.

The program has partnered again this year with the Tennessee Department of School Nutrition Services, and is receiving funding by the USDA, National School Lunch Program, and Seamless Summer. It will run through July 21 st . Similar summer meal programs are also available throughout the Tri-Cities region.
