Tax agent: Delayed refunds are for your protection
Tax season has begun and experts want to make sure people know what to expect this year.
We talked to local tax agent Libby Marcus who says there are some things people may be confused about. She says the IRS has been actively trying to cut down on the instances of identity theft which may slow down some refunds.
She also says if you've been a victim of identity theft be sure to watch your mail for an IRS letter containing a pin number you've been issued.
"That special pin number is to help you file your 2016 tax return, because they're trying to help you to avoid anymore compromising or theft or fraud or whatever of your accounts," Marcus explained.
She also says that filing earlier makes it more difficult for someone else to use your identity.
