TBI releases annual 'Crime on Campus' report
Crime is up slightly on college campuses in Tennessee according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's 2016 "Crime on Campus" report.
It details the volume and nature of crime reported and is based on data submitted by colleges, universities, and law enforcement agencies.
Among the findings, 27 percent of all crimes reported were categorized as theft. Assaults increased by 21 percent and fraud increased by eight percent, compared to the year before.
There was a 27 percent decrease in reports of rapes, from 62 in 2015 to 45 in 2016.
On the campus of ETSU, 69 thefts were reported and 25 percent those crimes were cleared. There were four sex offenses with a 50 percent clearance rate and 28 assaults with 57 percent cleared.
