TBI: Woman shot husband after he threatened her, husband charged
A Sullivan County man has been charged with aggravated assault after the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said he threatened his wife who then shot him and ran to a neighbor's home for help.
According to the TBI, special agents began an investigation into a shooting which occurred at a home on Beck Road in Piney Flats during November 2017.
The TBI investigation found that prior to the shooting, Michael Bennett threatened his wife, Angela Bennett, with a gun and assaulted her. Michael Bennett then broke his wife's phone to prevent her from contacting authorities. During the assault, Angela Bennett grabbed a handgun and shot Michael Bennett. She then ran to a neighbor's home for help.
Michael Bennett was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of hindering a 911 call. He turned himself in Wednesday and was booked into the Sullivan County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
