TWRA: Black bears harvested must be checked in at checking station

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agencies is reminding black bear hunters that any bears they kill must be checked in at a physical checking station.

The archery season for black bears opens on September 23 in all bear hunting zones.

Electronic checking of bears through TWRA's website or mobile app is not allowed.

There is at least one bear checking station in each county open for bear hunting.

Some are for bears only; hunters will receive a paper tag upon having their bear checked.

Traditional checking stations that also check other big game species will operate under their normal process.

A list of approved checking stations can be found on the TWRA website.

The TWRA recommends calling the checking station to verify hours of operation.
