UPDATE: Eastman alerts neighbors to 'venting steam' this weekend
Eastman Chemical Company issued a statement Friday that alerts neighboring homeowners and businesses about upcoming chores related to getting some systems in the plant back online.
Some may hear "venting of steam" throughout Friday and possibly into the weekend as systems within the facility are being calibrated and brought to normal operations, the report said, following a series of explosions on Wednesday as its coal gasification plant.
"We appreciate the community's patience and understanding as we work to bring our utility systems back online," the report said.
Oct. 4 marked the 57th anniversary of a fatal explosion based at Eastman that killed 16 people. Company officials said they do not anticipate any long term effects on human health or the environment following the blasts.
