UPDATE: Edmisten indicted on federal gun charges
A Johnson City man pulled over last week for speeding and found to be in possession of an assortment of weapons including two auto rifles was indicted Wednesday on federal gun charges.
Scott Edmisten, 43, is charged with three counts of possession of a firearm not registered with the National Firearms Act, one count of making firearms in violation of the NFA and possession of firearms without serial numbers, according to court records released by U.S. District Court in Greeneville.
Edmisten was stopped by an officer on Oct. 2 on Old Jonesborough Road and a cache of weapons was found including two AR rifles, two loaded handguns and more than 900 rounds of ammunition, Washington County Sheriff Ed Graybeal told News 5 last week.
Some neighbors living near Edmisten's residence on Clearwood Drive were told to evacuate their homes for nearly six hours as agents with the ATF and FBI searched the suspect's dwelling for possible weapons and explosives. Their search recovered more guns including another semi-automatic weapon, police said.
