A Johnson City, Tennessee man is headed to prison after admitting he tried to murder his wife.

Delmar Mack, Jr., 48, pleaded guilty to attempted first degree murder in court on Wednesday.

Prosecutors say he shot his wife in February 2015 inside their home on Delaware Street after police said Mack had held her there against her will for several days.

Officers say they found the woman suffering a gunshot wound to her hip after Mack had shot her with an AR-15 rifle.

Mack was sentenced to 18 years of prison but will be eligible for parole, according to court records.
